The youngest performers that were on stage that evening, the four boys
and one girl hailed from UC-Santa Cruz and gave the audience the
necessary energy to make it to intermission. Although the general crowd
didnt pick up on the humor right away, Intermission found it hilarious
from the get go and judging by the laughter that followed as the
sketches went along, it seemed that everyone else came around as well.
Especially funny was Jesse Thorn: We expect him on SNL in the near
future if it gets better any time soon, that is.
Never shying away from the absurd, Prank the Dean has won admirers with
sketches such as the one in which Thorn plays a moral crusader supporting legislation to prevent babies from marrying each other.
'Now,' he proclaims, 'is the time to draw a line in the sandbox.'...
'At first glance, they seem to have a a college kind of frat humor,"
says Cole Stratton, co-producer and co-creative director of San Francisco Sketchfest, 'but what makes them good is that they're very
clever. They're good at mixing laugh-out-loud stuff with things that are a little more subtle.'"
Oakland Tribune:
Offering some youthful zest was Prank the Dean, a quintet from the
University of California, Santa Cruz, that shows great promise.
Especially funny was an old man's rant about the circus in his day and
how much better it was than the twirly French circus twits of today.
